The University of Leiden was founded in 1575 and is the oldest institution of higher education in the Netherlands. In order to improve student education, in its seven colleges, it offers 50 undergraduate students, 100 graduates, and 50 doctoral or doctoral programs.

Funding provided in Leiden University Scholarships

The university offers three different types of scholarships
• € 10,000 deduction from the tuition fee
• 15,000 € deduction from the tuition fee
Full tuition fee discount

LExS is not a full scholarship. LExS non-EEA beneficiaries are still required to provide “evidence of sufficient funds” to apply for a student visa / residence permit.

Conditions for applying for the Leiden University Scholarships

    Eligible Countries: International students from all over the world are eligible to apply.
    Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship is available for Master's degree programs at the University of Leiden.
    Students should have achieved excellent study results in their previous education. The student should preferably be considered among the top 10% of graduates in the previous study program. Note: Proof of ranking is not required - this information is only for an indication of your level of competitiveness.
    Applicants must have a passport from outside the European Union and not be eligible for support under the Dutch system of study grants and loans (Studiefinanciering) - except for students applying to the LLM Program for Advanced Studies or the MA in International Relations and Diplomacy, to which the nationality restrictions do not apply.

How to Apply for Leiden University Scholarships

    You must first apply online for admission to the Master's program at Leiden University. In your application, you must clearly indicate that you wish to apply for the LExS scholarship in the scholarships section and upload the letter of motivation for the LExS scholarship.
    The deadline for programs commencing in September is February 1 (except - Master in Advanced Law: March 1) while the deadline for programs commencing in February is October 1.
